Tyrrell Hatton played Sunday's final round at Augusta National as though the golf world's civil war had never happened. The Legion XIII member fired a 6-under 66 — the lowest score of any player on Sunday — to finish tied for third at 10-under par in what became his career-best Masters result. [1]
The highlights were vivid. Hatton holed out for eagle at the 7th, then ran off four consecutive birdies from the 13th through the 16th, turning the back nine into the kind of scoreboard assault that makes patrons stop mid-bite on their pimento cheese sandwiches. [1]

The numbers tell a complicated story. One player's excellence is not a league's vindication — and LIV's critics will note that of the dozens of players who left the PGA Tour for Saudi money, exactly one threatened the leaderboard. But Hatton's 66 does answer the narrower question that has dogged LIV since its inception: whether players who compete primarily against smaller fields on shorter courses can still perform when it matters most.
On Sunday at Augusta, one of them could. The question is whether one is enough.
