The president's Truth Social feed on Sunday night was blockade, golf, blockade — and nobody blinked.
The Hill ran the congratulations straight, burying the chronological proximity to the Hormuz blockade announcement.
X can't decide whether the McIlroy post is endearing normalcy or terrifying cognitive compartmentalization.
Rory McIlroy won his second consecutive Masters on Sunday, and President Donald Trump congratulated him on Truth Social with characteristic enthusiasm: "With each year, Rory is becoming more and more a LEGEND!" [1]
The post appeared between two others about the Strait of Hormuz blockade. In one, Trump warned Iran of consequences for refusing to negotiate. In the next, the military confirmed operations would begin Monday morning. Sandwiched in the middle: effusive praise for a golfer who carded a one-under 71 to finish at 12 under par. [2]
Trump called McIlroy's performance "tremendous under intense pressure, something which few people would be able to even think about doing." He added that he looked forward to watching him compete "in two weeks at Doral" — Trump National Doral, his own Miami resort, which hosts the Cadillac Championship starting April 30. [1]
McIlroy became only the fourth golfer to defend a Masters title, joining Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods. His sixth major championship cements a legacy that once seemed stuck at four. The prize: $4.5 million and a second green jacket.
The juxtaposition was not lost on social media. The president's feed read: war, golf, war — a tonal whiplash that has become routine in a presidency conducted almost entirely through social media posts. Nobody in the White House press pool asked about it.
