The CDC's measles dashboard refreshes every Thursday at noon, and as of the May 7 print the United States had 1,842 confirmed cases reported in 2026 across thirty-nine jurisdictions plus twelve international visitors. [1] Ninety-three percent of the cases — 1,712 of 1,842 — are tied to outbreaks. [1] Twenty-five new outbreaks have been reported in 2026; the remaining 1,284 outbreak-associated cases trace back to outbreaks that started in 2025. [1] Today's print is expected to land while this paper goes to press.

The texture is in the geography. Utah's outbreak, which began in June 2025, was at 638 cases as of May 5 — 441 reported in 2026 — and the in-state curve has slowed: 37 new cases in the last three weeks against 121 in the prior period. [2] Austin Public Health confirmed Travis County's first 2026 case on May 7, an unvaccinated adult who had been internationally exposed and sought treatment at a St. David's emergency center on May 4 while infectious. [3] Travis is a new entry on the CDC map. Texas held 181 cases as of May 7, most in Hudspeth County around an ICE detention facility. [3] Michigan and Arizona continue to register newer cases on outbreaks that started in 2025.

What the paper noted today in its Utah-and-out-of-state piece is now a Thursday refresh question: whether the new print holds the slowing Utah curve against the widening out-of-state map, and how many new jurisdictions enter. PAHO's review of US elimination status is scheduled for November.
