FDA Recalls Turn Into A Shopping List Audit

The FDA recall page is not a panic board. It is a sorting system: food, cosmetics, allergens, bacteria, lot numbers, and the households for whom a small notice is not small. The agency says the page gathers public recall notices, though not every recall gets posted there. [1]

The paper's July 1 milk-recall piece argued that recall coverage should help readers find actual products and risks. July 1 supplies two examples. Eunha Fisheries recalled certain frozen olive flounder sashimi products because sauce packets contained undeclared wheat, soy and sesame. [2]

Kao USA recalled select lots of Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo, in 8.5-ounce and 33.8-ounce sizes, because they may be contaminated with Pluralibacter gergoviae bacteria. [3] The FDA notice identifies it as a cosmetics recall, not a food alert. [3]

Those are not the same consumer problem. One is an allergen risk for people who read condiment packets too late. The other matters most to consumers vulnerable to infection, including immunocompromised households. X often collapses recalls into either catastrophe or shrug. MSM often ignores them unless the brand is large.

The useful middle is a shopping-list audit: check freezer, bathroom shelf, batch, allergen, and who in the house is exposed. Small recall does not mean small consequence for the wrong household.
