Common Alzheimer Risk Scores Do Not Explain SuperAger Memory

A published five-site comparison of 142 SuperAgers and 89 cognitively average older adults found that APOE, three polygenic Alzheimer-risk scores, and tested rare protective variants did not distinguish the groups. [1] [2]

Researchers used blood DNA from prospectively enrolled participants who had undergone detailed cognitive testing in the United States and Canada, asking whether unusually strong later-life memory might simply be the inverse of common inherited Alzheimer risk; within the measures tested, it was not.
