Firefighters found eight people dead inside a burning Grand Haven Township home on Friday, including six children believed to be between 5 and 15 and two adults, and although authorities believed the dead belonged to one family, they had not positively identified everyone by Saturday. [1][2]

Some victims had gunshot wounds, but Ottawa County Sheriff's Office Captain Jake Sparks said investigators had not established how many, causes of death remained pending, and although the fire was believed to have begun inside the house, its exact origin and cause were also undetermined. [2]

At cutoff, investigators were considering whether the fire was intentional and whether the deaths could constitute a murder-suicide, but Sparks stressed that the inquiry was early and declined to draw a conclusion, while Michigan State Police arson investigators joined the case. [2]
