Rain fell for 10 days and 10 nights without stopping in Anar Gul's part of eastern Afghanistan, he told the Guardian. Stone-and-mud homes failed under the water. Floods left at least 31 people dead and hundreds missing as villages and towns were washed away. [1]
Gul's account gives the regional weather story a place and a voice. It does not stand for every Afghan village, and Afghanistan's deaths and missing people cannot be added to separate records from Bangladesh, China, Guangdong or Taiwan.
In Chattogram, Bangladesh, 412.3 millimetres of rain fell in 24 hours, driving a flash flood through Banshkhali. Jesmin Akter carried six children through chest-deep water after the family's house, field, poultry and belongings were lost. [1]
That household record is different from a rainfall measurement. The gauge describes water over time. The family account describes destroyed shelter, food, property, schooling and health risk. Neither can replace the other.
One mechanism, several disasters
The Guardian joins the events through a climate mechanism: warmer air can hold more water, allowing harder rain when storms form. [1] That explanation helps readers understand why extreme rainfall is becoming more common and intense across much of Asia.
It is not an event-attribution study for every flood in the article. A broad physical mechanism does not establish how much climate change contributed to one village's rain, one typhoon's path or one river's crest. Those questions need event-specific analysis.
The distinction does not weaken the climate account. It keeps mechanism, event and consequence in their proper order. Long-term evidence can show changing risk while local warnings, building conditions, drainage, river levels and emergency response determine what happens to a particular community.

Taiwan's agriculture ministry reported more than NT$330 million in agricultural losses during June. [1] That is a monetary and sectoral record from a defined month. It cannot be added to lives lost, people evacuated, rainfall depth or rivers above warning levels.
The article's regional scale is useful only if every number keeps its label. Afghanistan provides deaths, missing people and village testimony. Bangladesh provides a 24-hour rainfall record and household loss. China provides river warnings. Guangdong provides typhoon evacuation. Taiwan provides June agricultural losses.
Stripped of those labels, the figures would make Asia appear to suffer one enormous disaster under one clock. In reality, the source describes separate systems, storms, authorities and populations connected by rising rainfall risk.

Bangladesh's household testimony points to another consequence: children living among wet ruins and concern about disease. [1] That account should prompt local health and water surveillance. It does not establish a regional disease outbreak.
China's warnings require follow-through that shows which rivers flooded, which communities received notice, who moved and what damage or avoided loss followed. Guangdong's evacuation figure needs return and displacement records. Taiwan's agricultural losses need crop, geography, method and assistance details.
The continental frame explains why harder rain deserves preparation. It cannot perform preparation. Forecasts must reach people, routes must remain usable, shelters must function, relief must arrive and missing-person lists must close.
Gul's 10 days of rain are the beginning of that accountability, not a poetic symbol for a continent. [1] His village needs its own loss and relief record. So does every place gathered beneath the phrase extreme rainfall across Asia.
