Ramp Data Shows OpenAI Retaking Enterprise Share From Anthropic

Ramp's AI Index, built from corporate card and bill-pay records across more than 70,000 businesses, still shows Anthropic ahead — roughly 44 percent enterprise share to OpenAI's 40 as of July. The direction is the news: OpenAI is growing faster quarter to date, posting an 82 growth index to Anthropic's 76 on developer adoption of GPT-5.6 Sol. [1]

Ramp economist Ara Kharazian attributed Anthropic's stall to Fable 5 pricing plus retention requirements imposed by regulators. [1] That second clause is where the fight actually lives. On August 19, Anthropic told Fable users it must retain their data for 30 days, and endured the resulting outrage on schedule. By Thursday, Reuters reported the concession — enterprises may keep that retention window inside their own cloud. OpenAI countered by reaffirming its Zero Data Retention policy and previewing something called Private Safety Processing. [2]

Privacy became the sales wedge in a market that was supposed to be decided by benchmarks. One lab explains its compliance obligations; the rival sells their absence. Corporate buyers read both and choose their risk.

The wider ledger keeps expanding underneath the duel: overall AI adoption among Ramp customers topped 56 percent in July, up from about half in March. [1] MSM coverage treats share swings as noise inside growth; X treats them as referendums. The receipts say both labs are winning. The discourse says one must be losing. [2]
