Insidious: Out of the Further took Friday's box office with $10.68 million from 3,303 theaters, dethroning Spider-Man: Brand New Day on opening night. [1]
The projection math starts with the franchise's own precedent. The 2011 original turned a $4.78 million first Friday into a $13.27 million opening weekend — a 2.8x multiplier (weekend gross divided by Friday gross). [2] Applied to Friday's actuals, a 2.5x-to-2.8x multiple lands the sixth Insidious between roughly $26.7 million and $29.9 million. Against an $18 million production budget, even the low end prints profit fast. [3]
The weekend is not a coronation. Brand New Day answered Thursday with an 81 percent daily bounce to $9.88 million, sitting on $825.78 million cumulative, while The Odyssey added $5.09 million. [1] Horror front-loads its audiences; a superhero in week four does not. Saturday matinees decide whether the multiplier holds or the opener deflates toward $20 million.
Beneath the leaders, Spa Weekend managed $1.1 million across 2,009 theaters, and expansion title Tony jumped more than 600 percent on the week into sixth place. Even a Fast and the Furious re-release cracked the top ten. Thirty-four films reported about $40 million in ticket sales for the day. [1]
X has already awarded August to horror. The chart says the race closes Sunday night, and the ratio — not the discourse — will pick the winner.
