Two Israeli airstrikes killed at least two people in Gaza on Sunday, among them a four-year-old boy, and wounded seven others, Palestinian health officials told Reuters. [1] One strike hit a building in Zawayda, in the central Strip, after the army warned residents to leave. Medics said shrapnel scattered dozens of meters wounded six people there, including Mohammad Abdel-Salam Taha, who was pronounced dead at a hospital; a second strike landed near the Nuseirat refugee camp. The Israeli military said it was looking into both strikes. [1] It also spent Sunday threatening more of them. After a situation assessment, the prime minister's office warned Hamas that strikes would intensify if launches of balloons, drones and kites toward Israel did not stop immediately. Hamas official Basem Naim answered that children fly the kites "in search of their innocent childhood amid the rubble." [2]

Underneath sits the number neither side disputes: an October 2025 ceasefire halted major fighting but not the strikes, and Gaza's health officials count more than 1,280 Palestinians killed since it took effect, against four Israeli soldiers dead by the military's own accounting. [1] Saturday alone brought a statement claiming a senior Hamas militant killed in Deir al-Balah.
