FDA's traceback identified "a common grower in Sinaloa, Mexico" that supplies Coast Citrus Distributors as the likely source of the outbreak; the importer stopped buying from that grower and recalled its peppers. The numbers beside the hole stay frozen. FDA counts 431 confirmed illnesses across 32 states — 86 added in the last revision — with 57 hospitalizations, zero deaths, no illness onset since August 2. The investigation remains officially open: the count describes exposures that ended weeks ago, not risk that ends today. [1]

What moves instead is the shelf. The agency's Major Product Recalls hub, created August 20 to organize the downstream cascade, keeps gaining rows as manufacturers that used Coast Citrus peppers weigh their own recalls; USDA's food safety arm has issued its own public health alert for meat and poultry products containing the jalapeños. Chipotle switched suppliers for affected stores beginning July 20 and QDOBA stopped serving jalapeños July 28; Taylor Farms said it would no longer source from the farmer involved. The standing advice survives another unchanged day, because the exposure that matters now lives in refrigerators rather than restaurants. Check the recall list against your own kitchen instead of trusting the calendar; discard jalapeños or products made with them if the source is uncertain; sanitize what they touched. Stomach illness arriving twelve to seventy-two hours after a July or early-August Mexican-restaurant meal is a reason to call a clinician, not wait one out.
