Mission leaders from NASA, the Roman team and SpaceX met at Kennedy Space Center to examine the spacecraft, rocket and launch site before signing off on the mission's final phase. The telescope, already sealed inside Falcon Heavy's protective payload fairing, will move in the coming days to SpaceX's hangar at Launch Complex 39A, where technicians will connect it to the rocket before the full stack rolls out to the pad. Falcon Heavy, one of SpaceX's most powerful vehicles, uses three connected boosters to generate the thrust needed to carry a spacecraft of Roman's size into orbit. [1]
Roman is designed to give astronomers a far wider view of the sky than previous space telescopes, surveying large regions at once to study how the universe has expanded over time, investigate the physics behind that expansion, and search for exoplanets orbiting distant stars.
