Sir Alex Younger, the former chief of MI6, said publicly what Western intelligence officials have been saying privately: the United States has lost the initiative in its war with Iran.

Speaking on the Economist's Inside Defence podcast with defence editor Shashank Joshi, Younger was asked directly who holds the upper hand. "The reality is that the United States underestimated the task," he said. "And I believe that about two weeks ago, it lost the initiative to Iran" [1].
