Avex Still Has Not Named the Second Catalog Acquisition

Three days after Avex Music Group named Infamous — Lil Wayne and Charlie Puth co-writer, "Lose Control" producer — as the first acquisition under its $100 million City National Bank catalog line, the second name has not surfaced. [1][2] The fund's structure is $50 million in equity and up to $50 million in non-recourse debt, and the second acquisition is the one that turns Infamous from purchase into strategy. The catalog rollout sits adjacent to the touring-economics thread Friday's paper ran through the Foo Fighters' face-value door regime; both are operating mechanisms inside the same back-catalog economics.

Silence here is a quiet pricing signal. CEO Brandon Silverstein, fresh off Bruno Mars's global admin pact in March, described the fund as the first component of a long-term framework. [3] Frameworks need a second data point. The interest-rate environment that supports a non-recourse line in catalog financing also depends on the lender's read of mechanical-and-streaming revenue stability inside Q2 — and the Q2 print for the largest publishers does not arrive until late July.

What the trade press has not asked is whether the slowness is supply-side or demand-side. A producer-first strategy (Infamous over a writer or artist catalog) implies Avex is hunting for under-monetized publishing inside hit-rate clusters; that cohort is small, and the bidding stack against Hipgnosis, Concord, and Primary Wave is already tight. Music Business Worldwide framed the Infamous deal as the company's first move out of admin into ownership; Billboard treated it as a fund launch, not an acquisition. [1][2]

The second name will arrive. Whether it arrives as a producer, a co-writer, or an estate is the part that says what kind of fund this is.
