The May 8 paper said the prize sat inside an NBA investigation with no timeline. That remains the story. Yahoo Sports reported that the PTFO investigation alleged a $28 million no-show endorsement deal tied to Aspiration and that the NBA probe by Wachtell remains ongoing with no set timeline. [2] A prize cannot substitute for findings, but it can make institutional silence harder to launder as process.
The award changes the status of the journalism, not the status of the case. MSM can celebrate a podcast crossing into Pulitzer territory. Sports-media X is right to ask the colder question: if the reporting was consequential enough to win, when does the league decide whether it was consequential enough to punish?
