Prestige can flatten this into trivia. It should not. The institutional fact is sharper: a director can be celebrated twice before the industry has made the achievement ordinary. Theater X is right to treat the line as both triumph and audit. White's own quote to New York Theatre Guide, that she felt the responsibility and history of the moment, is not awards-night humility; it is a job description for institutions that still make the second nomination sound unprecedented.
