President Trump used the U.S. Coast Guard Academy's 145th commencement in New London on Wednesday to disclose a third sanctioned Iranian tanker seizure. "Two months ago, off the coast of Malaysia, a highly trained U.S. Coast Guard tactical team helped seize a sanctioned Iranian oil tanker that had been used to transport over a million barrels of oil from Kharg Island," he told the 266 graduates, according to CT Insider's account of the speech. [1] "This is the third sanctioned Iranian vessel the Coast Guard has helped capture since we began the fighting." He added: "Many more to come."

The line was a quiet update to an enforcement ledger this paper has been counting since March. The May 20 edition put the operating tally at ten confirmed mines and eighty-eight redirected vessels under Barrett's standing AUMF text. The Wednesday disclosure adds a Kharg-Island-to-Malaysia ship-to-ship interdiction that had not previously been on the public record, and pushes the named-vessel count from two to three. The pattern matters because the Coast Guard is a Department of Homeland Security agency. Its participation in a sanctions-enforcement blockade is being authorized under a presidential reading of existing maritime law rather than under any specific congressional vote. Forty-eight hours after the Senate moved on war powers, the Coast Guard's senior civilian disclosed a new sanctioned-tanker seizure to graduating cadets, in dress whites, in a setting whose tradition forbade questions. The promise of "many more to come" is the next datapoint the paper will count.

Cassidy, the Louisiana Republican who broke ranks Tuesday after losing his primary Saturday, posted afterward that his constituents are "extremely concerned about the ongoing conflict."
