Intel's Foundry Customer Is Still Not Named Day Five

Day five of the press cycle that followed Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan's May 18 Mad Money appearance closed Friday with no named external customer on Intel's 14A or 18A book. [1] Tan's wording — "multiple customers engaged," "rising interest," foundry as "a national treasure," "agreements with multiple customers in the second half of this year" — held verbatim across the JPMorgan interview last month, the May 18 CNBC sit-down, and the Friday wire follow-ups. [1] Tom's Hardware reported Intel has "two prospective customers for 14A" and expects commitments in the second half of 2026. [2] Neither prospect has been named.

The paper's Thursday brief on the unnamed customer took the position that the chart was outrunning the customer file. The Friday tape did not change either side of that equation. At roughly $108 a share, Intel ex-products still trades near twice book; TSMC trades near eleven. The premium is still the unnamed line.

AMD's reported 2nm allocation to Samsung remains the contradictory receipt — Friday produced no AMD-to-Intel reversal. [2] Apple-on-18A and Tesla-Terafab remain rumored. SemiWiki's separate reporting on customers prepaying for substrate capacity is the closest thing to a counterparty footprint, and it carries no first or last name. The 7-8% monthly 18A yield improvement Tan cited as "industry best practice" is the engineering metric customers are reportedly responding to; the response is not yet a signature.

The half-year deadline Tan named runs to Q3 earnings. Day five is one tick on that calendar. The language has not moved.
