It was the latest entry in a series of social media productions promoting "Operation Epic Fury," the administration's military campaign against Iran. Since early March, the White House's digital team has released pumped-up montages that splice real combat footage — actual airstrikes, actual detonations — with clips from action movies, video game cutscenes, and sports highlights. The "March Madness at the White House" post landed on March 20, the same day the tournament's first round tipped off with Duke beating Siena 71-65, Arizona routing Long Island 92-58, and Houston dismantling Idaho 78-47. [5] The Selection Show the previous Sunday had already drawn 6.4 million viewers on CBS, the highest audience in twelve years. [6] Advertisers were euphoric. CBS Sports president David Berson described "tremendous demand" for tournament inventory, with more than 100 brand partners buying in across linear TV, streaming, and social. [7]

Nobody in the ad sales call mentioned that the same social feeds carrying bracket updates were also carrying Pentagon kill footage remixed with Call of Duty aesthetics.

A country can watch sixty-four teams play for glory and a government sell war as entertainment content on the same device, in the same hour, and feel no friction at all. That frictionlessness is the story.
